A trans woman is a person who was assigned male at birth but identifies as female. Trans women may or may not have undergone gender-affirming surgery or hormone therapy, but they all share the experience of living in a gender that differs from the one they were assigned at birth.
Being trans is not a choice, and it is not a mental illness. Trans people are simply people who were born in the wrong body. Transitioning can be a long and difficult process, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Trans women who have transitioned often report feeling happier, more confident, and more authentically themselves.
